Foreword
This guide on wet rooms is published in light of the 2010 Building Regulations (Ministry of Transport, Building and Housing, 2010), and replaces By og Byg Anvisning 200, Vådrum (Wet rooms) (Brandt, 2001).
The content of these Guidelines has been updated and supplemented with in-depth coverage of the following:
Floors on concrete or lightweight aggregate concrete decks
Walls constructed using concrete, lightweight concrete, or brick
Renovation solutions
Floor and wall tile coverings
Paint applications
Plumbing installations
Furthermore, the section on light-grade constructions is supplemented by two solutions developed within the project entitled
Gode vådrum (Quality Wet Rooms), launched jointly by BvB (Byggeskadefonden vedrørende Bygningsfornyelse) and GI (Grundejernes Investeringsfond) (see
www.godevaadrum.dk). Both solutions use a double sealant system providing excellent protection against water- and dampness-induced damage. Finally, there are several examples of their implementation and integration into constructions.
Erik Brandt (MSc in Engineering, Senior Researcher) is the chief author and project manager of these Guidelines and Martin Morelli, (Researcher) is co-author. Further contributions were made by the Senior Researchers Eva B. Møller and Ernst Jan de Place Hansen. Lise Lotte Raunkjær (Architect) edited the Guidelines.
The Guidelines were peer-reviewed by Morten Hjorslev Hansen (MSc in Engineering, PhD).
The Guidelines are intended for project designers, consultants, and contractors who design and install wet rooms in new and existing buildings, or who renovate existing wet rooms.
These Guidelines were prepared with financial support from:
The Guidelines are based on research conducted by the Danish Building Research Institute as well as expertise provided by Byggeskadefonden, the Danish Construction Association, the Gulvbranchen, Træinformation, and MURO trade associations, project designers and contractors, as well as suppliers and manufacturers in the wet room sector. We would like to thank all those who made it possible for us to publish these Guidelines through their financial or expert contributions.
